RE: Official Poll on Reset - itsynibbles - 07-10-2016 the idea of this pleases me a great deal. I do not recall a purge of builds of banned or long time inactive players. You left them as is, and do not allow anyone to take them down or roll them back. We have not attempted to solve some of the problems and the first time you try it is a reset. Yes we've attempted some patches but they never serve to reduce lags and entities in the world. - We have shutdown redstone clocks and farms that caused lag; there are too many to keep count of. - With what CoreProtect logs? Last I checked, they got purged a week ago from a server error. How would we know who owns what, how long ago it was built, or how long the player's been offline? - Do you really believe this is the only solution we've come up with since we last talked of resets? We've been figuratively running around trying to fix any issue that surfaces, and now we know we're not addressing the cause. The server is old and needs a reset to fix everything. What do you think the 40-mob limit per chunk was? A spur of the moment idea to just mess up farms? It was to address mob-related lag. The rule against redstone clocks being eternally active? A reason for staff-intervention in player built redstone contraptions that caused lag. The ability of players to request the removal of builds belonging to highly-inactive players if deemed appropriate by staff? To address overcrowding. Empty your inventory before teleporting to this world? To address and warn that players' stuff may randomly disappear. If there is some belief that staff has not tried to solve these issues without resorting to a reset, then that is a false-perception. Do I think plugins, lags, economy, and redstone bugs can be fixed without a reset? Yes. We could introduce a server shop in the current set up, we could gradually erase some historical useless builds, we could install new plugins for the ones that do not play well together. We should try harder. We've always said that we'll purge builds built by banned players if they dont appeal in 30 days or their appeal gets denied after 30 days. It's also completely infeasible to go around rolling back every single little tiny build that is inactive on a 40k x 40k block map. The builds aren't even the major issue here, it's secondary. I'll definitely try to get it revisited though. As far as grief protection goes, if the reset occurs we'll be switching to a much more comprehensive plugin for that. Seems so. RE: Official Poll on Reset - greene345 - 07-10-2016 My vote on this stands as before, option 1 is the way to go. It's the best of all worlds. |
