I'd normally say turn it off and back on again, so yeah.
Completely delete it from your computer and re-download it before you try anything else.

Are you a virgin media customer in UK? I am, and I couldn't access various websites or minecraft called virgin and they admitted it was them.
I am downloading Minecraft again now as I had deleted it thinking it was the issue.
