well, they don't have to unban you in the first place. staff doesn't just ban people out of the blue and they make sure they have proof/reason to believe you broke rules. many servers don't have an appeal system either, so we are quite privileged to have one

The majority of bans are handled by the staff member who banned them because that staff member is the person who knows what was done and has all of the evidence.

For serious offenses, appeals are usually discussed amongst several staff before a conclusion is reached
