Just because a build is unclaimed does not mean it is for the taking. A general rule of thumb is: "If you didn't build it, and you don't have explicit permission from the owner to touch it, don't touch it." You'll find that mindset will keep you well out of trouble in terms of griefing.
As for who owns the beacon: it's owned by staff as a collective. The beacons are set up at the res warps to give players a boost in digging while they gather up enough resources to make their own beacons.
A final note: you had taken 44 emerald blocks from the base of the beacon (shown below), upon your return you are expected to return all of them to a staff member (does not necessarily have to be me), or if you've already done something with them, let me know.
