Just a minor annoyance, but a couple of days ago my anvil disappeared from my base. I am pretty sure it was NOT stolen, just disappeared. Fortunately I had plenty of iron, so I just replaced it.

I've had horses disappear in the past, too.

Just wondering if anyone else has had placed items disappear like that.

Anvils can be worn down through use or being dropped. When it breaks down, there's a loud clanking sound and it immediately disappears on your last use. If your anvil wasn't in a protected claim area, then anyone can use it and wear it down until it breaks. If there are no block logs for the anvil area being modified, then some randoms probably came and used it until it broke.

Untamed horses are included in the 40 mobs (passive or hostile) per chunk limit, if you had farm animals in the same chunk, that's probably why they despawned. If they were tamed, they probably died via hostile mobs, tamed animals can take damage from creepers and skeletons.

Thanks for the info. That might explain the horses. I'm not sure about the anvil, as it was inside my base but not locked.
