Hello all, I've created one of the densest tree farms on HT. No more chopping tree by tree, it's row by row!
Totally there are 320 oak, 320 birch, 240 acacia, 24 dark oak, 21 giant spruce, and 18 giant jungle trees. 

I recommend chopping down an entire giant tree or an entire row (40) of small trees. There should always be enough saplings (per my tests). The floor is in sharp colors to aid finding saplings.

Do the saplings fall into anything or do they just float on top till they disapear?

they will be on the ground of course. You should be chopping an entire row or giant tree, then after you finish pick up the already dropped saplings and wait for more if needed.
