No staff are on so I'm just going to ask here. Is this true? Shouldn't a single chat violation result in a verbal warning or something, instead of an instant kick off of the server?

better than getting banned for rule breaking

A kick is a warning, so is a tempban, we rarely do verbal warnings.

Everyone who joins the server is advised by the server to read /rules. They also have to pass a quiz to enter the server. Therefore it is assumed that you are familiar with the rules. Since you are familiar with the rules a verbal warning is not necessary but is done by some as a courtesy. It is not an abuse of powers for another player to /kick a person abusing our chat rules. Like wise, with other rules infractions, it is not an abuse of power to issue a /mute, temp or full ban to someone who has repeatedly abused the rules. If you are unclear on the server rules you should do /rules in game or refer to the rules page on these forums: https://hometownmc.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=13
