I think it is probably ok. I realised they share a cap with hostile mobs so I lit all the caves underneath and all the surface areas up top and spawns have increased quite a bit.

+1 everything jelly just said.  smaller map and fly = all the juicy stuff will be gone before you can blink.    if there is going to be a new map perhaps think about denying fly for the first month or...
