NEW Hometown Rules Section Thread
#1
HomeTown Rulebook: 4th Edition
March 2025

The completion of the HomeTown server's tutorial or acceptance of the Hometown Forums' Terms of Service Agreement is a tacit contract that states you have read, understand, and will abide by the following rules and customs. Failure to comply may result in appropriate punishment of the offending person(s) at the discretion of the server and/or forums staff team.
Preamble
This rulebook has been evaluated and approved by the staff team prior to its ratification. All information and rulings have been determined to be fair and accurate. All rules and punishments listed here are the direct result of either the original rules [Founder] frostVINCENT put forth during the creation of the server or from precedent-setting incidents requiring staff intervention and formal adjudication. The purpose of this rulebook is to establish a publicly accessible framework that ensures consistent, just, and well-reasoned decision-making by the staff team. All punishments will be grounded in the rules and principles outlined herein. Any amendments, revocations, or modifications to this rulebook will be documented in the Change Log section with the corresponding date of enactment.
Definition of Staff Team
For the purposes of these rules, the "staff team" refers to the designated personnel responsible for enforcing community guidelines and maintaining order.
  • “Server Staff" (also referred to as “staff” or “the staff team”) includes Guardians, Moderators, and Administrators, who enforce in-game rules, manage player behavior, and oversee server operations. The list of server staff can be found in-game at /warp StaffMembers.
  • “Forum Staff" are comprised of Moderators and Administrators on the server, who regulate forum discussions, enforce forum-specific rules, and maintain orderly discourse. A full list of forum staff can be found here.
Punishments
HomeTown maintains community stability via clearly defined rules that regulate player conduct and enforce consequences for violations. To address rule-breaking, the staff team follows a progressive disciplinary system, applying punishments that escalate based on the severity of the offense and the player's history of prior infractions. The starting point for enforcement is determined by these factors. Any attempt to evade or circumvent a punishment will result in a more severe penalty without exception.
Punishments are categorized into four escalating levels - Level 0, Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 - each carrying increasing restrictions based on the severity and frequency of offenses. The following section outlines these levels in detail.
Level 0: Written Warnings, Player Kicks, and Temporary Mutes. Written warnings are issued for low-severity violations and serve as formal notices that a player's behavior is not acceptable on the server. If a player is not online when the warning is given, the warning will show up in their chat the first time they log in to the server afterward. Player kicks are brief, forced disconnections from the server, typically due to chat disruptions or minor misconduct. Kicked players may rejoin the server immediately after they are kicked. The reason for the kick will be stated in the kick message, and the kick itself is viewed as a warning against further infractions of a similar nature. Temporary mutes are applied to players who repeatedly violate chat rules despite prior warnings. Temporary mutes start at five minutes and increase progressively if the behavior continues after the mute expires. These mutes are meant to curb disruptive communication and encourage compliance with the server's chat policies.
Level 1: Temporary Bans. For mild rule infractions, a player may be barred from the server via a temporary ban. These bans are automatically lifted after the designated time has elapsed and do not require a ban appeal. Attempts to appeal a temporary ban may be denied at the staff team's discretion.
Level 1a: Post-Appeal Temporary Bans. In certain cases, particularly for major offenses such as x-ray usage, the staff team may impose a temporary ban even after a ban appeal has been accepted. This additional punishment is enforced when prolonged restrictions are deemed necessary to reinforce server rules and deter repeat offenders.
Level 2: Standard Bans. Bans are given to players who have engaged in a moderate breach of the server's rules. A ban will remain in effect indefinitely until the offender submits a correctly formatted appeal through the server forums. Appeals are reviewed at the discretion of the staff team, and a ban will only be lifted if the appeal is accepted. Failure to submit a properly formatted appeal, demonstrate an understanding of the infraction, or show intent to follow server rules may result in the appeal being denied. Repeatedly submitting frivolous or insincere appeals may lead to additional penalties.
Level 3: Permanent Bans. This punishment is the most severe disciplinary action and results in a permanent ban from the server, with no option to appeal. This punishment is reserved for players who engage in hacking, exploitation, the use of racial slurs, or other actions that cause severe harm to the server or its community. Permanent bans are typically non-appealable, and unbans are granted only in exceptional circumstances at the sole discretion of the staff team. Attempts to appeal a permanent ban will generally be denied unless compelling evidence or justification is provided.
HomeTown Forums Rules
The punishments outlined for the Minecraft server do not apply to the forums, and forum violations are handled separately. Forum-specific enforcement actions may be issued as deemed necessary by the forum staff team. Failure to comply with these rules may result in warnings, temporary forum bans, permanent forum bans, or full forum purges (a ban accompanied by the permanent removal of all post history). The enforcement of these actions is at the sole discretion of the forum staff team.
HomeTown is a privately owned entity, and the staff team has complete and total authority to censor or moderate the community to maintain order. This includes forcing accounts to use appropriate content for profile pictures, usernames, and signatures.
  1. Be respectful to others at all times, and do not be annoying. Any form of disrespect, including but not limited to hostile trolling, racism, sexism, or discrimination toward any person, group, organization, or creed, will not be tolerated in any capacity.
  2. Do not spam the forums. Spam refers to any content that disrupts or hinders the community's ability to communicate effectively, causes annoyance, or interferes with forum functionality. HomeTown's definition of spam is broader than standard definitions, and it is ultimately up to the staff team to determine what constitutes spam. Do not engage in arguments with staff about what qualifies as spam.
    1. Unsolicited advertisements for real-world services, blogs, or other Minecraft servers will not be tolerated.
  3. Forum account signatures must not exceed a height of 400 pixels and may not contain any rude, offensive, or inappropriate imagery or content.
  4. Ban Appeals must be properly formatted as noted in the Ban Appeal Format Thread.
HomeTown Server Rules
HomeTown is a privately owned entity, and the staff team has complete and total authority to censor or moderate the community to maintain order. This includes forcing players to use appropriate content for skins, usernames, and nicknames.
  1. Chat Rules and Personal Conduct - Punishment Levels 0-3
    1. Be respectful at all times and do not be annoying. Slurs, sexism, racism, homophobia, or discrimination toward any person, group, organization, or creed is strictly prohibited.
    2. Cursing is permitted, provided it is not directed at another player. Any form of harassment, including using profanity to insult or attack others through chat, signs, or any other medium is forbidden.
    3. Posting the IP address of another server will result in an instant ban.
      1. Advertising the HomeTown server IP on other servers will result in a permanent ban from HomeTown.
    4. All URLs posted in chat must be safe for work and appropriate for the community. Posting pornographic content or adult websites is strictly prohibited.
      1. This includes soliciting the exchange of pornographic material for in-game assets via the server chat systems.
    5. Do not intentionally be disruptive, provoke arguments, or engage in behavior designed to annoy other players.
    6. If a staff member instructs a player to drop a topic of conversation, they must comply. Continued refusal may result in disciplinary action. Any issues may be discussed with a staff member via private messages.
      1. If a staff member requests that a player use /ignore on another player, the request must be followed or interaction with that player should cease. Unnecessary drama is disruptive.
    7. Do not spam the chat. Spam refers to any content that disrupts or hinders the community's ability to communicate effectively, causes annoyance, or interferes with forum functionality. HomeTown's definition of spam is broader than standard definitions, and final discretion lies with the staff team. Do not engage in arguments with staff about what qualifies as spam.
      1. Shop advertisements or advertisements of any other kind can only be posted at a minimum of every 5 minutes.
      2. Do not enter into and out of AFK excessively. What constitutes "excessive" is at staff discretion.

      4. Do not send fake private messages.

      1. Do not ask for personal information like age or specific location.
    9. Do not ask staff to unban a player for any reason. Repeated requests of this nature may be punished under Rule 1a of Chat Rules/Personal Conduct: do not be annoying.
    10. Staff members are not permitted or obligated to disclose information regarding the details of a player's ban. Repeated requests for disclosure of details may be punished under Rule 1a of Chat Rules/Personal Conduct: do not be annoying.
    11. Do not request ranks or for items to be spawned in.

    2. Creating a nickname that falsely implies a relationship to another player or references them in an unwanted manner is not permitted, especially if they have explicitly requested not to be associated.
    3. Nicknames must remain legible and unobtrusive in chat. Any nickname deemed to obstruct chat or hinder readability will be subject to review by the staff team. If a staff member requests a change, compliance is required.

    2. Fly hacks, speed hacks, jump hacks, etc. are not permitted and will result in a permanent ban.

    4. The use of PvP-related hacks, including but not limited to kill aura, reach modifications, or any other unfair combat enhancements, is strictly prohibited.
  4. Criminal Activity - Punishment Level 3

Engaging in any form of criminal activity or behavior that is universally recognized as illegal or unethical, regardless of jurisdiction, will result in an immediate and permanent ban without appeal. This includes, but is not limited to, offenses such as pedophilia, the sale of stolen goods, or any other conduct deemed unlawful or grossly unethical by the staff team.
    2. Cracked accounts
      1. Soliciting cracked accounts is a violation of 4a and will be punished accordingly.

    3. The exchange of in-game currency for Minecraft accounts is strictly prohibited, as the staff team cannot oversee or regulate any transactions, including those involving potential scams or stolen accounts.
    4. Players who become aware of any criminal activity occurring on the server are strongly encouraged to report their concerns directly to the staff team or through a trusted intermediary.
  5. Griefing - Punishment Levels 0-3
    1. Players are prohibited from modifying any property that they do not own without explicit permission from the property owner. This includes, but is not limited to, the placement or removal of blocks, crops, items, animals, NPCs, or any other gameplay elements. The enforcement of this rule applies regardless of the property's age, structural integrity, security measures, or occupancy status. If a player does not own the property and has not received permission to alter it, no modifications may be made.
  6. Property Etiquette and Building Rules- Punishment Levels 0-3
    1. Players may not construct builds within 100 blocks of another player's property without explicit consent. 4. If a staff member directs a player to leave an area, compliance is mandatory. Failure to comply or repeated incursions may result in disciplinary action.

    8. Players may claim only one of each type of natural structure (e.g., ocean temples, villages, nether fortresses, woodland mansions, strongholds, etc.). This rule applies to all naturally generated structures.
      1. Claiming natural structures solely for the purpose of looting and selling them is prohibited.
    9. The use of any technique or exploit to break bedrock is strictly prohibited.
  7. Resource Rules - Punishment Levels 0-2
    1. Bulk resource collection is not permitted in the main worlds. Players are expected to use the resources words (/warp resource, /warp resnether, and /warp resend).
      1. Excavating areas is permitted so long as the intention is for a build and not collecting resources.
  8. Shop/Art Rules - Punishment Levels 0-3
    1. Shop owners have the right to set daily sell limits (one real-world day, not a Minecraft day) and enforce trespassing restrictions. Repeated violations may result in further disciplinary action from the staff team.
      1. Shop owners may request that staff reverse transactions, including item returns and refunds, if a trespassed player is found purchasing from their shop.
    2. Reselling is permitted by default unless explicitly prohibited within the shop.
      1. The resale of artwork is strictly prohibited without the explicit permission of the original owner.
      2. Shop owners may request that staff reverse transactions, including item returns and refunds, if a player is found to be reselling from their shop.
    3. Intentionally bankrupting or attempting to bankrupt another player is not permitted.

    2. Gold farms using portals must be constructed in the designated Gold World at /warp gold, in compliance with all applicable rules posted within that area.

    14. A maximum of 40 mobs are allowed per chunk before they begin despawning.
    15. Players are permitted a maximum of 128 sheep, bees, or a combination of both, per loaded area (11x11 chunks)

    20. Large groups of villagers must be contained and may not be left to roam freely.
  12. Player Warps & Removal of Builds
    1. Player warps may be purchased by those holding the [Member] rank or higher, or by any player with VIP status.
      1. Warp name transfers must be conducted through staff and cannot involve monetary transactions between players. Either the transferring or receiving player must pay the $100 relocation fee.
      2. Players are prohibited from purchasing warps for others who are ineligible to do so themselves.[*[VIP players cannot purchase warps at a discounted price on behalf of non-VIP players.
    2. Warp name reclamation may be requested only if the warp meets the criteria outlined in the Warp Reclamation Thread
      1. All requests for warp names reclamation must be submitted through theWarp Reclamation Thread. A staff member will confirm approval via a post on the thread.
      2. Players reclaiming warp names are required to pay the appropriate fee for setting a new warp.
    3. Warps that provide public services to players may be admin-claimed to save claim blocks provided they meet the criteria outlined in the Public Service Warp Thread.
      1. Requests for admin-claims on public service warps must be made via the Public Service Warp Thread. A staff member will confirm approval via a post on the thread.
    4. Noobs Huts and Claim Huts may only be removed if they meet the criteria specified in the Noob Hut Removal Request Thread and Claim Hut Removal Request Thread, respectively. Players are not permitted to remove these themselves and the removal must be carried out by a staff member.
      1. Builds constructed by a player who has been banned for over one year may be requested to be removed by a staff member regardless of its size to make room for rule-abiding players.
    5. Players may request to have their builds be WorldEdited to a new location for a monetary fee by a staff member through the WorldEdit Request Thread. All requests must be posted on the thread, and a staff member will confirm completion or provide an explanation for denial.
      1. WorldEdit requests can only be made for player-placed blocks and cannot be used to alter or remove natural features of the landscape.
  13. Player Towns
    1. Players must have a clearly posted set of rules for their town.
      1. Players residing in the town must agree to these rules prior to moving in.
    2. Evictions must be processed by a staff member and may only be requested if a player's build clearly violates a town rule.
      1. Town rules related to evictions must be outlined in the posted rules.
    3. If new rules are created after a player has moved into a town, the player must agree to the new rules before they apply to them.
      1. If eviction rules are not in place when a player moves into a town but are created afterward, and the player has not yet logged in to agree to them, a three-month offline standard will be enforced by staff before the build can be removed. For permanently banned players, the three-month standard does not apply and the build may be removed immediately. Town owners may ask a staff member the status of a player's ban to determine whether if it is permanent.
    4. Rules must be posted on signs, not lecterns, to ensure proper tracking of revisions. Lecterns do not leave appropriate CoreProtect logs, making it impossible for staff to verify whether eviction rules were in place before or after a player moved in.
  14. Banned Player Conduct - Punishment Levels 1-3
    1. Banned players are allowed to continue posting on the forums or Official HomeTown Discord, as long as they adhere to the rules outlined in the Ban Appeal Format Thread.
    2. Banned players will be restricted from using the #server-chat channel of the Discord until their ban appeal is successful.
    3. Banned players may not use alternate accounts to circumvent the ban on their main account. The use of an alternate account will result in the alternate account being banned and additional punishment being applied to the main account.
      1. Players banned for ban evasion must appeal that on top of their original ban before they are permitted to return to the server.
    4. All ban appeals must be submitted in the Ban Appeals section of the forums following the rules specified in the Ban Appeal Format Thread.
    5. Banned players are prohibited from inquiring about or discussing their ban with staff members outside of the ban appeal process.
    6. Banned players may not request that other players discuss their ban or request an unban from staff members on their behalf.
    7. Players who believe they have been subjected to unfair treatment in any capacity are encouraged to escalate their concerns to another member of the staff team for review.
